Kim Gye-ri, the legal representative for former President Yoon Suk-yeol, has launched a YouTube channel. Within just two days of its establishment, the channel had gathered over 110,000 subscribers as of the 18th.
On the 16th, Kim created the YouTube channel "Kim Gye-ri TV" and released a 2-minute 31-second video titled "I am Kim Gye-ri. I started YouTube out of frustration" around 8 p.m. The video has recorded over 390,000 views as of two days after its release.
In the video, Kim said, "I never thought I would be doing YouTube. I had many thoughts during the impeachment proceedings, and I felt that I might need a channel for communication. As the situation became urgent, I thought I should set it up right away, and that's why I filmed today."
On February 25, during the final arguments of the impeachment trial of former President Yoon, Kim stirred attention by saying that declaring martial law was an unavoidable choice against the opposition's reckless actions, stating, "I have been enlightened."
At that time, she said, "I am a mother of a 14-month-old daughter. On the day of the martial law declaration, after 'baby duty' (parental leave), I was lying on the sofa when I saw the announcement and immediately checked the legal text," adding, "I read the statement slowly. I confirmed the atrocities committed by the Democratic Party, which I had been unaware of while pregnant, giving birth, and raising my child, and decided to dedicate the time I had kept free to engage in this case. I have been enlightened."
In the video, Kim noted, "Many people remember only that I 'have been enlightened' and 'the enlightenment decree,' but much content was argued in the Constitutional Court. However, the arguments made were barely reported. I felt frustrated when I asked reporters to share the materials and cover them, but it didn't go well; most of the articles reflected only the prosecution's stance. So I wanted to express our position."
Kim plans not to convey the specifics of former President Yoon's arguments through YouTube. He stated, "There are issues of legal ethics, and our legal team has a public relations team, so official positions are being separately released," adding, "This channel is for sharing my personal thoughts and feelings." He further remarked, "When articles are incorrect or positions are distorted, I can turn on the camera to clarify. I welcome likes, subscriptions, and alerts, but please do not leave comments. I decline negative comments."
Kim is actively participating as part of the legal team in the impeachment trial at the Constitutional Court concerning former President Yoon, the criminal trial for leading a rebellion, and the special prosecution investigation.
