Special counsel Kim Keon-hee is searching the office of People Power Party lawmaker Kweon Seong-dong on the 18th.
On the morning of the same day, the special counsel sent investigators to Kweon's National Assembly office and his district office in Gangneung to conduct a search.
It is reported that lawmaker Kweon attended the 'Korea Dreamer Festival, Youth Neuron 2024' event held by former World Mission Headquarters director of the Unification Church, a person surnamed Yoon, on June 22nd in Sejong University, Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, and gave a congratulatory speech.
Concerns were also raised that a person surnamed Jeon, known as 'Geon-jin Beopsa,' and Yoon attempted to recruit a large number of Unification Church members ahead of the People Power Party convention in January 2023 to make Kweon the party leader.
Yoon is suspected of having handed over a diamond necklace for 'Mrs. Kim's gifts,' Chanel bags, and soliciting requests related to church issues through Jeon. The bribery content includes support for the Unification Church's development project on the Mekong River in Cambodia, the Unification Church's acquisition of YTN, the establishment of the UN's Fifth Office in Korea, and invitations to the presidential inauguration ceremony.
