A pre-evacuation order has been issued for nine townships in Pohang, North Gyeongsang Province, due to concerns over landslides caused by heavy rain.
On the 18th, the city of Pohang announced that it had issued an evacuation order for residents in nine townships at around 10:14 p.m. due to fears of landslides.
Specifically, a total of 407 residents from 31 villages are reported to be the targets for evacuation, including 10 people from 5 households in Jamyeong-ri, Yeonil-eup, 6 people from 4 households in Daedongbaeri, Homigot-myeon, and 4 people from 3 households in Hyeonnae-ri, Jukjang-myeon.
According to the city of Pohang, rockfalls occurred at 989 Jukjang-ro, Jukjang-myeon (Gasa-ri section 6-6 to Sangok), restricting traffic in both directions.
A city official in Pohang noted, "We judged that it would be safer to proactively evacuate residents before it got darker."
Currently, Pohang is experiencing rainfall at a rate of 8.3mm per hour.
