On this day, the review of former President Yoon's detention, which began at 10:15 a.m. presided over by the 9th Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Court (Judges Ryu Chang-seong, Jeong Hye-won, and Choi Bo-won), ended around 4:10 p.m.
After the review of his detention ended, the legal team representing former President Yoon stated, "During the review, former President Yoon remained in his seat and spoke directly." However, the legal team did not answer any other questions from the press, stating, "We need to meet with (former President Yoon)."
About an hour after the review ended, the legal team texted the press, saying, "Today, the legal team and former President Yoon refuted all the charges the special investigation claimed and submitted objective materials regarding (former President Yoon's) health."
The insurrection special investigation team also remained silent in response to questions such as, "Was there a part that was primarily explained to maintain the detention at the court?" and "What materials regarding former President Yoon's health were submitted?"
A review of detention is a procedure in which the legality of a suspect's detention and the necessity of continuing the detention are examined and judged by the court. The court assigns the responsible panel, and the assigned panel must conduct an interrogation of the suspect and an investigation of evidence within 48 hours of the request. Following this, the court will assess the necessity of detention, considering whether the conditions for detention and procedural violations exist, and whether there are concerns of evidence destruction or flight risk, ultimately deciding on release. During this period, the special investigation into former President Yoon is suspended.
Meanwhile, former President Yoon was detained by the insurrection special investigation on the 10th on charges of obstructing official duties and abuse of power. The reason for the detention is cited as concerns over evidence destruction.
