The 20-year-old woman who claimed to have 'your child' to Son Heung-min (33), the captain of the South Korean national soccer team and captain of Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premier League, demanded several hundred million won. She denied some of the charges in the first trial. A man in his 40s, who was also indicted, admitted to all of the charges.
On the 17th, Judge Lim Jeong-bin of the Seoul Central District Court's Criminal Division 20 held the first trial for the 20-year-old woman, Ms. Yang, who was charged with extortion and attempted extortion, and the man in his 40s, Mr. Yong, who faces attempted extortion charges.
Ms. Yang's side stated, 'We deny the conspiracy and attempted extortion charges and will express our opinion on the extortion charge later.' Mr. Yong's side said, 'We acknowledge all of the charges.'
The court plans to conduct witness examinations and hear evidence opinions at the next session. The next session is scheduled for the 28th of next month.
Ms. Yang, who was in a romantic relationship with Son, is accused of extorting 300 million won by sending him a fetal ultrasound picture and claiming she was pregnant last June. Mr. Yong, Yang's boyfriend, is also accused of demanding 70 million won in March of this year (attempted extortion).
Son's side reported them for extortion last May. The Gangnam Police Station, which received the case, arrested the two on the 14th of the same month and detained them on the 17th, subsequently transferring them to the prosecution on the 22nd. The prosecution then forwarded Ms. Yang and Mr. Yong to trial while in custody on the 10th of last month.
