A person in their 70s who allegedly attempted to lure an elementary school student while they were on their way home in Seocho-gu, Seoul, by saying, 'I will give you 10,000 won' has been referred to the prosecution.
The Banpae Police Station in Seoul announced on the 16th that it had sent a 70-year-old woman, referred to as Ms. A, to the prosecution on charges of attempted kidnapping of a minor.
According to police, the Banpae Police Station received a report from the school on the 2nd at about 2 p.m. that Ms. A approached a student, saying, 'If you help me, I will give you 10,000 won.' The police began their investigation after receiving a report from the student's guardian on the 4th, apprehending Ms. A the next day and conducting two rounds of questioning.
Police confirmed through closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage recorded at the time of the incident that Ms. A did not show any coercive behavior towards the student. It remains unknown what request Ms. A made to the student.
The four police stations in Seocho and Gangnam districts, along with the Seoul Police Agency's mobile patrol unit, plan to reinforce coordinated patrols at 57 elementary schools under their jurisdiction until the summer vacation.
