The special prosecutor for the rebellion announced on the 16th that it would attempt a third compulsory summons of former President Yoon Suk-yeol at 2 p.m. Previously, the special prosecutor had notified former President Yoon of three summons investigations and attempted compulsory summons twice through the Seoul Detention Center, but failed.
Park Ji-young, deputy special prosecutor of the rebellion special prosecutor's office, said at a press briefing that day, "We issued an order to bring former President Yoon to the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office investigation room by 2 p.m. that day at the Seoul Detention Center the night before."
Former President Yoon did not respond to two attendance requests on the 11th and 14th after being detained by the special prosecutor on the 10th. Consequently, the special prosecutor attempted compulsory summons on the 14th and 15th, but both were unsuccessful.
In response, the rebellion special prosecutor called in officials from the Seoul Detention Center who had failed to comply with the order the previous morning for questioning, stating, "We will hold them accountable severely." The special prosecutor also indicated that it is reviewing plans to charge former President Yoon without extending the detention period.
Deputy Special Prosecutor Park noted at a press briefing the day before that when asked by reporters whether there was a possibility of charging former President Yoon immediately without extending the detention period if the special prosecutor went to the Seoul Detention Center and it did not resolve the issue, "We are considering that possibility," adding that it is "one of several options."
