Actor Park Sang-min was sentenced to a suspended prison term in an appeal trial regarding his third charge of drunk driving.
The Suwon District Court's Criminal Appeal Division 1-2 dismissed the appeals of both the defendant and the prosecution in the appeal trial of Park Sang-min, who was indicted without detention for violating traffic laws and received a six-month prison term with a two-year suspension in the first trial, maintaining the original sentence on the 16th.
Earlier, Park Sang-min argued that his sentence was excessively harsh, while the prosecution argued that the sentence was too lenient. However, the second trial court stated, "Considering that there were no changes in circumstances during this trial, the original sentence is appropriate."
Park Sang-min was indicted for driving his Toyota vehicle under the influence around 8 a.m. on May 19 last year on the roads of Gwacheon, Gyeonggi. He fell asleep in an alley before returning home and was caught by police responding to a witness report. At that time, Park Sang-min's blood alcohol concentration was 0.163%, which is at the level for license revocation.
Park Sang-min has been penalized for drunk driving on two previous occasions. In February 2011, he was caught driving a colleague's vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration that warranted a license suspension in Gangnam, Seoul, and in August 1997, he was arrested by police for causing a traffic accident while driving under the influence in Gangnam.
