The special prosecutor for insurrection announced on the 10th that it would conduct its first investigation since former President Yoon Suk-yeol's re-arrest on the 11th.
Park Ji-young, the special prosecutor for insurrection, said in the morning, "Today, no investigation will be conducted due to the schedule of former President Yoon's insurrection trial; instead, the investigation is planned for tomorrow."
Former President Yoon was arrested on January 19 on charges of being the leader of the insurrection and was released on March 8 following a court decision canceling his detention, before being re-arrested around 2 a.m. on the day of the incident, four months later.
The special prosecutor executed the issued warrant at the Seoul Detention Center around 3 a.m. on the same day and informed Kim Keon-hee, the spouse of former President Yoon, about the arrest. During a briefing, Park noted, "The arrest warrant was executed by the guards under the direction of the special prosecutor around 3 a.m. at the Seoul Detention Center," adding, "The fact of the arrest was also communicated to Mrs. Kim and her attorney via mail."
The special prosecutor remarked on the method of investigating former President Yoon, stating, "I will certainly consider his status as a former president within the limits of general societal awareness, but I will not treat him differently from other suspects in other respects."
Earlier, at around 2:07 a.m., Nam Se-jin, the presiding judge for warrants at the Seoul Central District Court, issued a warrant against former President Yoon, stating, "There is substantial reason to suspect that he committed the crimes listed in the warrant and there is a concern that he may destroy evidence," leading to charges of abuse of authority, obstruction of special public duties, and falsification of official documents.
