Special counsel Kim Keon-hee plans to summon former Future Korea Research Institute Vice President Kang Hye-gyeong on the 16th to investigate allegations of political broker Myung Tae-kyun's involvement in the nomination process.
The special counsel noted on the 9th that they plan to summon Mr. Kang as a witness for questioning at 10 a.m. on the 16th.
Mr. Kang is known to be the former vice president of Future Korea Research Institute, where Mr. Myung effectively operated, and was the accounting officer for former lawmaker Kim Young-sun. Mr. Kang is also recognized as the first informant regarding the allegations of nomination interference involving former President Yoon Suk-yeol and his spouse.
The special counsel is investigating the allegation that former President Yoon and his spouse received public opinion surveys from Mr. Myung for free, in exchange for ensuring that former lawmaker Kim was nominated in the June 1 by-election held that year during the 2022 presidential election process.
It has been confirmed that Mr. Kang's side provided related materials to the special counsel team in the form of voluntary submission, including Mr. Myung's PC and HDD/SSD (storage devices).
In this regard, Mr. Kang's side also said, "We had been organizing numerous materials in preparation since before the special counsel launched," adding, "In particular, we are still collecting and organizing forensic data and account information, and this prepared material is expected to greatly assist the special counsel, which has a limited investigation period."
