Kim Jong Un, the Chairman of the State Affairs Commission of North Korea, paid respects at the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun on the 8th, the 31st anniversary of the death of President Kim Il Sung, according to the Korean Central News Agency.
The news agency reported that Kim visited the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun at noon on this day, accompanied by Politburo Standing Committee members of the Labor Party, including Park Tae-sung, Choe Ryong-hae, and Jo Yong-won.
It was noted, "Comrade Kim Jong Un expressed profound reverence while gazing upon the statues of the Great Leader and the Great General" and that he had "delicately offered greetings for eternal life."
He added, "Comrade Kim Jong Un affirmed that with the glorious achievements of our socialist country, which is advancing remarkably while realizing the people's ideals across the ages, the revolutionary life and accomplishments of the Great Leader and the Great General will shine forever."
North Korean media often report on Kim's activities the day after events; however, this day's news about his visit to the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun was reported on the same day.
Kim also visited the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun on the anniversary of President Kim Il Sung's death last year. Since last year marked the 30th anniversary of Kim Il Sung's death, a 'regular year' where commemorative events are held in increments of 5 or 10 years, he also attended a central memorial event held at Kim Il Sung Square in Pyongyang.
This year, instead of a large-scale commemorative event attended by Kim, mourning events were held by various organizations.
The Korean Central News Agency reported that on the eve of the 31st anniversary of Kim Il Sung's death, a Duksung story meeting attended by Han Jong Hyuk, Chairperson of the Agriculture Workers' Federation, along with agricultural workers and federation members, was held. Also, on the same day, a youth and student Duksung story meeting attended by Moon Cheol, Chairperson of the Socialist Patriotic Youth Alliance, and youth alliance members was held.
North Korean media continued to reflect on the achievements of President Kim Il Sung.
The Labor Party's official newspaper, Rodong Sinmun, reported in an editorial published on the front page that President Kim Il Sung was "the unprecedented great figure who opened a new era for the construction of a powerful nation on this land and the founder of socialist Korea, who has built a people-centered socialism."
It continued, "Let us unite even more solidly around Comrade Kim Jong Un and vigorously fight for the infinite prosperity of our nation, shining with the name of the Great Leader."
