Newly appointed Seoul Central District Prosecutor Jung Jin-woo took office on the 4th. In his inaugural speech, Prosecutor Jung noted regarding the government-promoted prosecution reform, "We must honestly reflect on our exercise of prosecutorial power, which has become the starting point of the reform discussion, correct what is wrong, and change what needs to be changed from the perspective of the people."
Prosecutor Jung said, "We must accurately explain to the public the principles we must uphold and what we must do, and seek their understanding." He added, "Protecting the daily lives of the people is 'justice,' and that is precisely the mission given to the prosecution." He continued, "We must devote ourselves to protecting the socially vulnerable and eradicating civil crimes to ensure a safe daily life for ordinary citizens."
Prosecutor Jung also said, "Let us make our best efforts to create a fair and trusted prosecution." He stated, "Even if the conclusion is not welcome at present, believing in the 'power of truth' and making decisions confidently according to 'law and principles,' while taking responsibility for those decisions, is the role of the prosecution, and the prosecution that the people desire also fulfills that role as a fair prosecution."
