The Low Fertility and Aging Society Commission and the Ministry of Health and Welfare announced on the 4th that they have finalized a plan to invest a total of 100 trillion won this year to address low birth rates and an aging society. The budget for this year has increased by 6.4% compared to the previous year.
This implementation plan is the final year plan of the 4th Basic Plan for Low Fertility and Aging Society (2021-2025). The Low Fertility and Aging Society Commission and the Ministry of Health and Welfare held the 14th Population Emergency Response Meeting in writing from the 27th to the 30th of last month to review and finalize the implementation plan.
The plan for this year reflects the measures announced last year to reverse the trend of low birth rates and includes detailed promotion plans for each task. Based on this, the central government and local governments will promote response tasks related to low birth rates and the aging society.
The budget to be invested in this year's central government implementation plan is 88.5 trillion won, which is a 6.4% increase from the previous year. Through this, a total of 300 tasks will be promoted. Among them, 28.6 trillion won is set to be allocated to job projects addressing low birth rates.
The local government implementation plan is expected to utilize 12.2 trillion won, which is an increase of 14.1%. It will support 6,741 local projects.
The Low Fertility and Aging Society Commission plans to clearly analyze the performance of projects in this year's implementation plan and specifically evaluate the outcomes of direct projects aimed at addressing low birth rates.
Joo Hyeong-hwan, vice chair of the Low Fertility and Aging Society Commission, noted, "We will focus on thorough implementation and performance management to ensure that the public can feel the effects of the policy without any disruptions in the implementation of this year's plan."
