For the fourth consecutive day, tropical nights have occurred in Seoul. In Gangneung, extreme tropical nights with overnight temperatures exceeding 30 degrees have continued for two days in a row.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, from 6 p.m. the previous day to 9 a.m. that day, Seoul's lowest overnight temperature recorded was 26.8 degrees. Since the 29th of last month, the overnight low temperatures have exceeded 25 degrees for four consecutive days, including June 30, July 1, and July 2.
An overnight temperature exceeding 25 degrees is recorded as a tropical night.
In Gangwon's Gangneung, the lowest overnight temperature recorded was 30.4 degrees, indicating an extreme tropical night. An extreme tropical night signifies that the overnight low temperature exceeds 30 degrees. Previously, on the 1st, Gangneung had also recorded an overnight low of 30.3 degrees.
Additionally, tropical nights occurred in the Seoul metropolitan area, including Suwon (25.3 degrees), Dongducheon (25.2 degrees), Icheon (25 degrees), and Incheon (25.1 degrees). The Korea Meteorological Administration also reported tropical nights in Sokcho (27.7 degrees) and Donghae (26.1 degrees) in Gangwon Province, as well as Cheongju (26 degrees) and Daejeon (25.3 degrees) in Chungcheong Province.
The Korea Meteorological Administration noted that for the time being, hot and humid southwesterly winds will continue to flow in, causing overnight temperatures to remain high, leading to many areas experiencing heat and tropical nights.
