Shin Eung-seok (28th Judicial Research and Training Institute) has reportedly expressed his intention to resign as the head of the Southern Seoul District Prosecutors' Office to the Ministry of Justice on the 1st. Appointed as the head of the Southern District Prosecutors' Office in May last year, Shin has been leading the investigation into the bribery allegations against Jeon Seong-bae of the Ahn Dong-hae law firm. The Ministry of Justice is expected to soon conduct personnel changes for vacant prosecutor executive positions, including the heads of the Central and Southern Seoul District Prosecutors' Offices.
In his resignation notice posted on the prosecutor's internal network, Ipros, Shin stated, "The auspicious stop (吉祥止止) says that stopping when necessary is a good thing." He added, "As a prosecutor who has walked this path for 27 years, I now intend to stop."
Shin noted, "The prosecution is currently going through a very difficult time," and expressed, "I feel sorry for leaving first in such a challenging situation." He continued, "However, I believe that our prosecutor family, who are far more excellent than I, will ultimately overcome this difficulty well."
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Justice is reported to be planning personnel changes focusing on currently vacant executive prosecutor positions, including the heads of the Central and Southern Seoul District Prosecutors' Offices and the Chief of the Legal Affairs Bureau of the Ministry of Justice. Previously, in May, the head of the Central Seoul District Prosecutors' Office, Lee Chang-soo, and the Deputy Chief Prosecutor, Jo Sang-won, resigned, leaving some executive positions vacant.
