On the 1st, marking the first anniversary of the 'Seoul City Hall Station reverse driving disaster,' a vehicle crashed onto the sidewalk, resulting in a civilian's death.
According to the Mapo Police Station in Seoul, at around 4:02 p.m. on that day, an electric sports utility vehicle (SUV) drove onto the sidewalk near Digital Media City Station in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, hitting a man in his 40s. The man, who was struck by the vehicle, was found in cardiac arrest by the 119 emergency service and was taken to a nearby hospital while receiving cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) but later died.
The Mapo Police are investigating a woman in her 50s, referred to as Ms. A, the driver of the SUV, under charges of causing death under the Special Act on Traffic Accident Processing. Ms. A is reported to have stated to the police that she mistakenly manipulated the pedal.
The police have secured closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the scene and are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident.
