The Norwegian state lottery company is facing criticism after notifying thousands of customers about winning amounts worth hundreds of millions of won incorrectly.
According to British media The Guardian on the 29th (local time), Norsk Tipping, the operator of the Norwegian state lottery, mistakenly notified thousands of people about incorrect winnings due to a calculation error during the Eurojackpot draw on the 27th of last month.
The company said, "We should have divided the amount by 100, but accidentally multiplied it by 100." As a result of this incident, the company's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Tonje Sagstuen resigned.
The incorrectly notified winnings were not actually paid out. People expressed disappointment, noting they had "planned to buy a new car or go on vacation."
Liz Noustdal, who was notified that she had won about 1.9 million kroner (approximately 256 million won), commented, "It was a happy minute."
