The special investigation team for rebellion announced on the 1st that it had notified former President Yoon Suk-yeol to appear by 9 a.m. on July 5 for a second round of questioning. The team had instructed former President Yoon to attend the questioning at 9 a.m. that day, but he did not show up.
On that day, Park Ji-young, the deputy head of the special investigation team for rebellion, said during a media briefing, "The side of former President Yoon has indicated in the (request for a change of date) document that it will appear on the 5th." She further noted, "If there is non-compliance with the investigation on the 5th, given that the conditions for (requesting an arrest warrant) are all met, I think the court will grant the (arrest warrant)."
An arrest warrant may be issued when a suspect fails to comply with a demand from investigative authorities or is likely to do so. Investigative authorities must request an arrest warrant for the suspect or take release measures within 48 hours after executing the arrest warrant. Previously, former President Yoon was arrested by the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials due to the execution of an arrest warrant in January, after which he was once detained by a court's issuance of a detention warrant. He was later released following the cancellation of the detention by the court.
Earlier, the special investigation team notified former President Yoon to appear for the second questioning by 9 a.m. on July 1, after summoning him for initial questioning on June 28. In response, his side requested to postpone the investigation schedule to after July 3.
Former President Yoon's side reportedly stated in the change of date request that, "Since there will be a full day of witness examination in the criminal trial for the (rebellion leader) charges on the 3rd, due to health reasons, I can appear on the 5th or 6th after resting on the 4th."
