A man in his 60s attempted self-immolation in front of the presidential office in Yongsan on the 30th and was arrested by police.
The Yongsan Police Station stated that around 11:10 a.m. on the same day, they took A into voluntary custody on charges of concealing a dangerous weapon under the Minor Offense Punishment Act after he attempted self-immolation near the presidential office.
According to police, A had doused himself in a flammable substance and attempted to set himself on fire. Riot police subdued A before the fire could ignite. Police believe A attempted self-immolation after complaining that a banner he had set up had disappeared.
A had reportedly staged a one-person protest near the presidential office, claiming that closed-circuit television (CCTV) should be installed in hospital operating rooms, neonatal wards, and other places.
