The Korean National Police Agency announced on the 30th that it will conduct a special crackdown on three types of corruption, including public office corruption, unfair practices, and safety violations, over four months in line with the new government's launch.
From the 10th to October 31, the agency will focus its crackdown on 10 activities, including ▲public office corruption (receipt of money and valuables, abuse of authority, passive administration, financial corruption, and violation of protection), ▲unfair corruption (illegal rebates, hiring corruption, and illegal speculation), and ▲safety corruption (poor construction and safety collusion).
The Korean National Police Agency plans to build an investigation system centered around city and provincial governments by utilizing intelligence and information networks from 259 police stations nationwide, and will actively pursue asset recovery centered on crime profit tracking investigation teams. It will collaborate with the CIO and prosecutors and establish a consultative body with local governments as needed to create an integrated cooperation system for 'crackdown → investigation → administrative measures → institutional improvement.'
Regarding the background of these measures, the Korean National Police Agency explained that they aim to support the Lee Jae-myung government's policy goal of building a safe society and ensuring fair opportunities and competition, while securing trust in public service.
An official from the Korean National Police Agency said, "As this is the new government's first task for corruption crackdown, we will enforce stricter measures without any exceptions," adding, "We will substantively support the realization of the public livelihood-centered national agenda." He also noted that threats and retaliatory crimes against crime reporters and informants will be pursued to the end and that measures for the safety of crime victims will be implemented.
