The prosecution handed over the case regarding the 'missing asset declaration suspicion' of Prime Minister candidate Kim Min-seok to the police.
On the 27th, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office stated that it had transferred allegations against candidate Kim regarding bribery, violations of the Political Fund Act, and tax evasion to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency.
Earlier, Lee Jong-bae, a city council member of the People Power Party, filed a complaint against candidate Kim on the 19th at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office. This was due to the controversy that candidate Kim's expenditures were greater than his income, raising suspicions that he may have accepted money through improper means or evaded taxes.
The Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office assigned the case to the Criminal Division 1 (Director General Kim Seung-ho) on the 20th. In response, the Democratic Party of Korea remarked, 'The prosecution should immediately stop its undue overreach into the president's appointment powers and the National Assembly's confirmation rights.'
The prosecution explained the reason for handing the case over to the police, stating, 'The prosecution plans to refrain from initiating direct investigations in the future and focus on investigations related to the people's livelihood.'
