A group that distributed and used drugs in a male-only sleep room in Gangnam, Seoul, has been arrested by the police.
The Eunpyeong Police Station announced on the 26th that 15 people, including drug smugglers, distributors, and users, were arrested for violations of the Narcotics Control Act on the 14th, and that 7 of them were detained. The police applied to confiscate 160 million won in revenue from criminal proceeds and are pursuing additional suspects.
This investigation expanded after the police arrested a simple drug user in April and began tracking drug distributors. The police captured evidence that a smuggler, identified as Mr. A, hid drugs purchased in Hong Kong in underwear to smuggle them and supply them to distributors.
Mr. A, who smuggled methamphetamine hidden in underwear from Hong Kong between January last year and May this year, came under investigation, and it was reported that the drugs were sold through LGBTQ websites and apps, leading to group drug use and sexual relations in a male-only sleep room located in Seocho-gu.
On the 14th, the police conducted a search and seizure of the sleep room, arresting distributors, users, and venue providers. They secured 139 pieces of evidence, including 70g of methamphetamine, 6 bottles of aphrodisiac, and 5 million won in cash. The sleep room was revealed to be an unlicensed variant business rather than a legitimate lodging establishment, prompting a request for administrative action to the local government.
The Eunpyeong Police Station stated, "We will further strengthen the collection of drug intelligence and crackdowns related to unlicensed sleep rooms and variant businesses."
