A fire broke out in the underground parking lot of an apartment in Hanam, Gyeonggi Province, prompting dozens of residents to evacuate urgently.
At around 7:55 a.m. on the 25th, a fire erupted from a Renault "Zoe" electric vehicle that was charging in the underground parking lot of a 25-story apartment building located in Sinjang-dong, Hanam. The vehicle owner reported to 119, saying, "A fire occurred while the vehicle was charging," and fire authorities were dispatched immediately.
The fire was largely contained around 8:10 a.m., about 10 minutes after the report was received, and work to extinguish the remnants continued.
As the flames spread, 75 residents evacuated by themselves, and during this process, two people in the elevator were briefly trapped before being rescued. Fortunately, there were no casualties.
Fire authorities are continuing efforts to completely extinguish the remnants by using a mobile assembly-type water tank after towing the burning vehicle above ground.
The police and fire authorities plan to investigate the exact cause of the fire as soon as the extinguishing operation is completed.
