A female student enrolled at Tsinghua University, a prestigious institution in China, is gaining significant attention online for her combination of academic prowess, appearance, and character. Controversy has arisen following the revelation that her father banned her from broadcasting activities, stating that "it is inappropriate for beautiful women to engage in live streaming."
According to the Hong Kong South China Morning Post (SCMP) on the 22nd (local time), Zhang Senxinlan, from Zhao'an County in Fujian Province, China, recently gained popularity by sharing her study methods and daily life on social media (SNS).
Zhang Senxinlan noted, "I study for 8 hours a day and read 500 pages of books a week," adding, "I like to look pretty while getting all As. The two do not conflict." She has become a role model among students, also garnering attention as a study mentor by sharing study advice.
In 2022, she achieved the highest score in China's college entrance examination, the Gaokao, and entered Tsinghua University. She is also known for donating her entire 105,000 yuan (about 21 million won) village scholarship.
Recently, as Zhang Senxinlan began live broadcasting on social media (SNS), her appearance, popularity, and high view counts became hot topics again, leading to advertising proposals. She stated, "It hurt to hear that I was trying to gain recognition through donations," and expressed the hope, "People may have forgotten me, but I hope to stand up again with a new look."
However, her father, Zhang Zatian, intervened in his daughter's broadcasting activities. He claimed, "Although her video view counts are high and advertisements have come in, it is inappropriate for such a beautiful female student to do live streaming," adding, "College students can engage in business, but proper direction and guidance are necessary." Zhang Zatian is active as an education blogger.
Following this statement, criticism has arisen on Chinese SNS, asserting that "a daughter's career choices should be made by herself," "judging by appearance is unacceptable," and "this represents overprotection and outdated thinking."
Zhang Senxinlan is currently a third-year student at the School of Marxism at Tsinghua University, and her goal is to become a teacher after graduation.
