The number of millionaires in Korea exceeded 1.3 million last year, ranking tenth worldwide.
According to the '2025 Global Wealth Report' released by Swiss investment bank UBS on the 18th (local time), the number of Koreans with a net worth of over $1 million (about 1.375 billion won) was tallied at 1,301,000 last year. This represents a slight increase from the previous year (1,295,674) and marks the first time it surpassed 1.3 million.
The report analyzed the asset holdings of a total of 56 countries. The United States had the highest number at 23,831,000, accounting for about 40% of the world's millionaires. Following the U.S. were China (6,327,000), France (2,897,000), Japan (2,732,000), Germany (2,675,000), and the United Kingdom (2,624,000). Korea ranked tenth.
In the Asia-Pacific region, Korea was found to have the second most millionaires residing there, after Japan. Following Korea were Taiwan (759,000), Hong Kong (647,000), and Singapore (331,000).
The total number of millionaires worldwide reached 60 million, with their total asset holdings estimated at around $226.47 trillion (about 31.1645 quadrillion won). In the United States, the average increase was about 1,000 millionaires each day, while in China, 386 new ones were added daily.
UBS projected that over 5 million new millionaires will emerge in the next five years due to the impact of economic growth in the U.S.
