Fire department officials in Jeollanam-do are embroiled in controversy for sending messages about personal events like their children's weddings using the 'Emergency Message (Emergency Notification System)' designated for emergencies.
According to the Jeollanam-do Fire Headquarters on the 11th, the Suncheon Fire Station in Jeollanam-do sent a message containing the schedule of a high-ranking official's child's wedding to a total of 4,500 firefighters and staff members using the 'Jeollanam-do Fire Headquarters Emergency Notification System' on the 9th.
The emergency notification received by the firefighters that day contained the date and time of the wedding, the location, and the account number for congratulatory gifts. On the same day, an official from the Najuseong Fire Station also sent a similar message regarding their child's wedding using the Jeollanam-do Fire Headquarters Emergency Notification System.
This system was established to ensure rapid dissemination in case of emergencies that require quick mobilization, such as fire alerts, disasters, or fire response alerts. In an emergency, urgent situations are sent directly to each firefighter's mobile phone to inform them of response methods and other details.
As this fact became known, posts requesting an investigation into the matter appeared on the internal bulletin board of the fire department.
The Suncheon Fire Station expressed in an apology posted on the staff bulletin board, 'We deeply apologize for the delivery of private messages through the Emergency Notification System' and added, 'We will take this incident as an opportunity to approach the operation of public systems more rigorously and cautiously.'
