A police officer and a prosecutor's investigator have been indicted for leaking investigation-related information regarding actor Lee Seon-kyun, who was under investigation for drug use.
On the 5th, the Incheon District Prosecutor's Office Criminal Division 6 (Director General Choi Jong-phil) announced that they had indicted a 30-something police officer surnamed A from the Incheon Police Agency and a 40-something prosecutor's investigator surnamed B from the Incheon District Prosecutor's Office on charges of leaking official secrets, among others. They also indicted a 30-something reporter surnamed C for violating the Personal Information Protection Act for receiving personal data, including the real names of the subjects under investigation, from A and providing it to another reporter.
A is accused of leaking information about the ongoing investigation into the drug allegations against Lee by photographing and sending materials (investigation progress reports). The leaked report was prepared by the Incheon Police Agency's Drug Crime Investigation Unit on October 18, 2023, and contained personal details about the subjects related to Lee's drug case, including names, prior convictions, identities, and occupations.
B is accused of informing a local newspaper reporter about the fact that Lee is under investigation for drug allegations and providing updates on the case. This newspaper exclusively reported the incident with the headline 'Top star L, under investigation for drug allegations' on October 19, 2023.
Actor Lee was formally charged on October 14, 2023, and underwent police questioning three times over two months, ultimately being found dead four days after his third questioning on December 26 near Waryong Park in Jongno District, Seoul.
