It has been reported that the personal information of over 10,000 citizens who used public parking lots in Goyang City has been leaked. Concerns have been raised that secondary damage, such as smishing, could occur due to the personal information leak.
According to Yonhap News on the 5th, the Goyang Urban Management Corporation, an affiliate of Goyang City, recently received notification from the National Intelligence Service that the account information of the administrator of a company responsible for maintaining the systems of 64 public parking lots in the city was leaked to hackers.
The time of personal information leakage from public parking lot customers was between 3:27 p.m. and 4 p.m. on the 21st of last month, and it is reported that the information of 10,399 individuals was leaked due to an external attack by hackers. The leaked information includes customer names, phone numbers, vehicle numbers, parking lot IDs, and parking fee discount conditions.
After recognizing the fact of the personal information leak, the corporation immediately deleted the account used for the leak and promptly changed the passwords of all administrator accounts to block the possibility of additional leaks. The corporation also implemented security measures, such as restricting external access to the administrator website, and announced this fact along with an apology on the public parking lot website.
The corporation has reported the personal information leak to the Personal Information Protection Commission and is known to be forming an incident response team to inspect all administrator accounts and security systems to prevent recurrence.
