The Ministry of Education announced on the 29th that it has given final approval for three university mergers applied for by seven domestic universities.
The universities that received merger approval from the Ministry of Education this time are Kangwon National University, National Gangneung-Wonju University, National Mokpo University, Jeonnam National University, National Changwon University, Gyeongnam Provincial Geochang University, and Gyeongnam Provincial Namhae University. These universities will open as a merged university starting in March next year.
Additionally, the Ministry of Education is expected to grant final approval for the merger applied for by Pusan National University and Pusan National University of Education on the 30th.
All nine universities for which the Ministry of Education approved the mergers have been selected for the Glocal University 30 project promoted by the government. These universities applied for mergers in order to overcome the crisis faced by regional universities through this project.
Since receiving merger applications from these universities in May of last year, the Ministry of Education has formed a consolidation review committee to conduct evaluations for each university.
