Acting President Lee Ju-ho, who also serves as the Minister of Education, said on the 29th regarding the military aircraft crash in Pohang, "Please prioritize the rescue of the passengers."
The acting president reported this after receiving a briefing at 2:30 p.m. from Acting Minister of National Defense Kim Sun-ho about the situation regarding the P-3 naval aircraft accident that occurred in Pohang.
He also noted, "Please make every effort to quickly investigate the damage situation to prevent further harm."
Earlier, at about 1:43 p.m., a naval maritime patrol aircraft that had taken off from the Pohang base crashed near the base for reasons that remain unknown. According to the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the crashed aircraft is a P-3C maritime patrol aircraft, with four crew members believed to have been on board at the time of the accident. Rescue authorities are currently confirming the survival status of the passengers.
