The Police National Investigation Agency's Emergency Martial Law Special Investigation Team is investigating former Prime Minister Han Duck-soo and former Minister of the Interior and Safety Lee Sang-min as suspects of insurrection from 10 a.m. on the 26th.
A source from the Special Investigation Team noted during a regular briefing at the Korean National Police Agency that they discovered discrepancies between the testimonies of these individuals regarding the Cabinet meeting held before the declaration of a state of emergency on Dec. 3 last year and the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage taken from the Cabinet meeting hallway, which was recently obtained from the Presidential Security Service.
The source said, "As a result of analyzing the CCTV from the large reception room and corridors of the office related to the Cabinet meeting, there are differences compared to the testimonies of the two individuals during the National Assembly and the (investigative agency)." He added, "The procedures to confirm this are ongoing."
The Cabinet meeting, held just before former President Yoon Suk-yeol declared a state of emergency on the night of Dec. 3 last year, took place in the large reception room on the 5th floor of the Yongsan Presidential Office.
Investigations are also being conducted into allegations that the former Minister instructed the Fire Agency to cut off electricity and water to media buildings during the state of emergency. Previously, the police summoned former Prime Minister Han and former Minister Lee as suspects of insurrection for questioning.
The police received voluntary submissions of CCTV footage from the large reception room where the Cabinet meeting was held from 6 p.m. on the day of the martial law until the next day, as well as footage from the corridors of the presidential office. They also secured CCTV footage from the entrance of the Safe House in Samcheong-dong.
