Law firm TaePyungYang (head lawyer Lee Jun-ki) announced the launch of the 'disaster safety strategy research institute' on 26th. Professor Yoon Myung-oh, an authority in the fields of firefighting and disaster management, has been appointed as the head of the institute.
The TaePyungYang 'disaster safety strategy research institute' will provide comprehensive services covering all aspects of disaster response, from consulting for fire disaster prevention to cause analysis and legal advice upon occurrence of incidents, as well as legal support related to urban planning, including construction and firefighting permits. The institute plans to hold a relay seminar starting in June on topics such as large-scale incident analysis and legal risk diagnosis.
Professor Yoon Myung-oh, who has engaged in various activities in fields such as firefighting and disaster management, will serve as the head of the institute. TaePyungYang recently recruited Professor Yoon as a consultant.
After graduating from the Department of Architecture at Seoul National University, Yoon earned a master's degree in architecture from Seoul National University Graduate School and a doctorate in engineering from the University of Tokyo Graduate School. From 1992 to 2023, he served as a professor in the Department of Architecture at Myongji University, the Department of Architectural Engineering, the Department of Disaster Safety Engineering, and the Department of Disaster Science at Seoul City University. Additionally, he has served as the president of the Korea Fire Science Association, a commissioner for the Regulatory Reform Committee, and a commissioner for the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission.
In addition, attorney Choi Jin-won, an expert in serious disaster areas such as fires, will serve as the strategic director of the institute overseeing operational duties. The 'risk management team' composed of TaePyungYang's key experts in criminal and serious disaster fields, including head lawyer Jeong Su-bong, and lawyers Jo Sang-cheol, Han Jeong-hwa, Song Jin-wook, and Yoon Sa-ro, will handle emergency response services (ERS). The advisory board will also include head lawyer Lee Hyung-seok (head of the TaePyungYang serious disaster response office), consultant Kim Se-ho (former Vice Minister of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport), and consultant Jin Hee-sun (former Deputy Mayor of Seoul).
A TaePyungYang official noted that "to provide systematic comprehensive advice, core experts in each field, including serious disasters, personnel and labor, litigation, corporate law, insurance, and environmental and ESG (environmental, social, governance), will offer systematic and comprehensive advice through collaboration with external firefighting and disaster management specialist institutions."
