Acting President Lee Joo-ho, who also serves as Minister of Education, checked the field on the 3rd in preparation for the holiday period, stating, "Although the state affairs are in a chaotic situation, there should be no gaps in the safety of the public."
On that day, the acting president visited the Hwayang Police Station and the Gangdong Fire Station in Seoul. He encouraged police officers and firefighters, who are working tirelessly day and night for the safety of the public without rest during the holiday, and checked the security and safety management measures and implementation status in preparation for the holiday period.
While doing so, the acting president expressed, "I thank all of you for fulfilling your duties quietly on the front lines," and requested, "It is expected that many crowds will gather at places like the Children's Grand Park during the holiday, so please pay special attention to safety management concerning crowd density." The Hwayang Police Station is responsible for the nearby Children's Grand Park. This holiday period, which includes Children's Day, is likely to see many family visitors, along with an increase in security demand.
Afterwards, at the Gangdong Fire Station, the acting president checked the fire safety measures for the holiday period, including fire prevention, and the response status to ground subsidence (sinkhole) incidents that occurred in the Gangdong District, as well as encouraging the staff. He noted, "Recent sinkhole incidents have caused many citizens to be anxious," and added, "When a ground collapse occurs, reports usually come in through the fire department, so please work swiftly with the police, local governments, and related agencies to implement quick initial measures such as traffic control to prevent casualties."
In Gangdong District, there have been two instances of ground subsidence this year alone. In particular, on March 24, a large sinkhole with a diameter of 20 meters caused the death of a man in his 30s who was working in delivery.
