The prosecution decided to jointly investigate the 'SAMBU Construction stock manipulation suspicion' case with the FSS. The Democratic Party has raised suspicions that Kim Keon-hee, the wife of former President Yoon Suk-yeol, is involved in this case.
The Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office stated on the 2nd, 'Considering the nature of the case and the seriousness of the matter, we directed the FSS, which has been conducting a long-term relevant investigation, to expedite the investigation.' It added, 'In the future, the prosecution plans to actively cooperate with the FSS Capital Markets Special Judicial Police to carry out a swift and strict investigation.'
Earlier, on the 23rd of last month, the Financial Services Commission's Securities and Futures Commission reported former major shareholders and former CEOs of SAMBU Construction to the prosecution for suspected fraudulent transactions under the Capital Markets Act.
Those reported are suspected of having engaged in fraudulent transactions by repeatedly signing a formal memorandum of understanding (MOU) with overseas corporations without the willingness or ability to participate in the reconstruction project in Ukraine from May to June 2023, and exaggerating this. It is alleged that they inflated the stock price and sold their holdings, pocketing hundreds of millions of won in wrongful profits.
The Democratic Party raised suspicions that Lee Jong-ho, the former representative of Black Pearl Investment, who was pointed out as the account manager for Kim Keon-hee in the Deutsche Motors stock manipulation suspicion, was also involved in this case. It was claimed that after Lee sent a message stating 'Check SAMBU tomorrow' in a group chat, the trading volume of SAMBU Construction surged, and the stock price skyrocketed.
The FSS has investigated this case for about 7 months since September of last year. Based on this, the Financial Services Commission reported officials of SAMBU Construction to the prosecution. However, Kim Keon-hee and the former representative Lee were not included in the report.
