The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 30th that it will start providing emergency living expenses of 3 million won for wildfire victims in the Gyeongbuk, Gyeongnam, and Ulsan regions beginning in March.
This support will utilize donations collected through organizations such as the National Disaster Relief Association, Korean Red Cross, and Community Chest of Korea. As of 5 p.m. on the 9th, the total amount raised is 168.36 billion won.
The government will prioritize the distribution of emergency living expenses to 2,600 households confirmed as disaster victims by local governments among those who suffered personal and housing damages.
In the Gyeongnam and Ulsan regions, the household information verification process has been completed, and payments started on that day. In the Gyeongbuk region, payments will be made sequentially as the verification process concludes due to the larger scale of damage.
Jo Deok-jin, head of the Disaster Recovery Support Department at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, said, "I hope this emergency living expense assistance provides some comfort to the disaster victims who are deeply saddened by the wildfire damage," and noted, "We will strive to ensure that the funds contributed by the public are used swiftly and fairly."
