On the 30th, a sinkhole occurred on a road in Seongnae-dong, Gangdong District, Seoul.
According to the fire department, a sinkhole appeared around 3:35 p.m. at the Gildong intersection on Yangjae-daero, heading toward Dunchon-dong. No injuries were reported.
According to the city of Seoul, the sinkhole measures 2.5 meters wide, 3.0 meters long, and 1.2 meters deep. A leak occurred in the welded joint of a 10-centimeter diameter pipe connected to a 2-meter diameter water supply pipeline, causing the sinkhole.
As a result of this incident, two lanes on Yangjae-daero are closed. The city of Seoul plans to stop the leak and complete road repairs by 11 p.m. the same day.
Additionally, the city of Seoul has sent ground-penetrating radar (GPR) exploration vehicles to the site, which will start checking underneath the surrounding roads from around 5 p.m. The analysis results will be disclosed on the Seoul Safety Nuri website (safecity.seoul.go.kr).
