The prosecution, which took over the illegal gambling allegations against comedian Lee Jin-ho, has reportedly requested the police to conduct supplementary investigations.
According to the legal community on the 29th, the 9th Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (Director General Park Sung-min) has requested the police to conduct supplementary investigations into the Lee Jin-ho case, which is under allegations of gambling. It is said that this request aims to further investigate the accounts of related individuals and the gambling websites used by Lee Jin-ho.
The prosecution can request supplementary investigations to decide whether to file charges on the case submitted by the police. According to the 'regulations concerning mutual cooperation between prosecutors and judicial police officers and general investigation principles', the police must complete the supplementary investigation within three months from the date of receipt of the request.
The Gangnam Police Station in Seoul transferred Lee Jin-ho to the prosecution on the 15th, about six months after starting the investigation into this case. Lee Jin-ho admitted to illegal gambling through social media (SNS) in October of last year. It is reported that Lee Jin-ho borrowed money not only from lending companies but also from BTS member Jimin, comedian Lee Soo-geun, and singer Ha Sung-woon to cover gambling expenses.
