A forest fire broke out at Hanjisan Mountain in Nogok-dong, Daegu, on the afternoon of the 28th. The fire is spreading near residential areas in Joyadong, located 2 kilometers away. Forestry authorities have declared a phase 1 response and are currently extinguishing the fire.
On the same day, the North District of Daegu reported through a disaster text message that around 2:01 p.m., a forest fire occurred at San 39 in Nogok-dong. It recommended that nearby residents and hikers evacuate to safe places.
By 2:56 p.m., the North District indicated that the fire was spreading and advised residents of Joyadong and Nogokdong to evacuate to two elementary schools. At 3:10 p.m., it further recommended that nearby residents in Seobyeon-dong evacuate to a nearby middle school.
Smoke from the Hanjisan Mountain fire has been observed in various parts of downtown Daegu. The North District advised hikers in Hanjisan to evacuate to safe locations and instructed them not to descend toward Joyadong, Nogokdong, or Seobyeon-dong.
Forestry authorities declared a phase 1 response around 3:10 p.m. and deployed 19 helicopters, 38 vehicles, and 165 personnel. About 30 minutes later, the response was raised to phase 2. Wind gusts of up to 11 meters per second are currently blowing at the site. So far, the fire department has reported no casualties.
