On the afternoon of the 28th, in response to a wildfire in the Buk District of Daegu, the city of Daegu and forestry authorities will undertake nighttime firefighting efforts to prevent the fire from spreading into densely populated areas.
Acting Daegu Mayor Kim Jeong-gi noted at a briefing that they plan to deploy the Surion helicopter, which is capable of nighttime firefighting, to the scene.
The Surion helicopter is the only model capable of nighttime firefighting. Earlier, firefighting authorities had deployed 29 general firefighting helicopters to the fire site during the day but withdrew all of them when transitioning to a nighttime response system.
The city of Daegu and forestry authorities issued a mandatory evacuation order to residents of the nearby Seobyeon-dong apartment complex in preparation for the possibility of the fire spreading overnight. The number of affected individuals is approximately 3,400.
After the fire broke out, residents of Nogok-dong and Mutaejo-yadong evacuated to nearby elementary schools, resulting in no casualties. Some schools issued a closure order for the 29th.
As of 8 p.m. on that day, the area affected by the wildfire was 151 hectares, the fire line was 8.6 kilometers, and the firefighting rate was 19%. The fire is estimated to have started around 2:01 p.m. in a restricted entry area.
