The GTX-A line from Unjeong Central to Seoul Station recorded over 5 million users just four months after its opening. This has already surpassed the cumulative number of passengers on the section from Suseo to Dongtan, which has been in operation since March of last year.
According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on the 28th, a total of 5,061,222 people used the GTX-A line from Unjeong Central to Seoul Station by the previous day. Since the first train departed on Dec. 28 last year, an average of 41,828 passengers have boarded daily. On weekdays, the number of passengers was at 67.1% (33,596 people) of the estimated figure (50,037 people) only in early January, but in the second week of April, it achieved excess demand at 101.8% (50,913 people). In the fourth week of April, it increased to 60,296 people (120.5%).
It is interpreted that the number of residents commuting from Goyang and Paju to Seoul has surged. By taking the GTX, one can reach Seoul Station in about 22 minutes from Unjeong Central Station and about 16 minutes from KINTEX Station.
The highest number of passengers on the GTX-A line from Unjeong Central to Seoul Station on a weekday was on the 25th. That Friday was the last day of the world-renowned band Coldplay's concert in Korea, held at the Goyang Sports Complex near KINTEX. It also marked the opening day of the '2025 Goyang International Flower Exhibition' at the Ilsan Lake Park near KINTEX.
On holidays, the highest figure was recorded on the 22nd of last month (Saturday), with 64,270 users (164.7% of the estimate). This was likely influenced by the '2025 Comic World 318' event held at KINTEX. Additionally, demand significantly exceeded estimates on days when large events such as World Cup qualifiers, G-Dragon concerts, and the Seoul Mobility Show were held at the Goyang Sports Complex and KINTEX.
Considering the number of passengers so far, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport projected that by early May, the combined number of GTX-A users from Unjeong Central to Seoul Station and from Suseo to Dongtan would exceed 10 million. When the GTX passes through Samseong Station without stopping in the first half of 2026, connecting Seoul Station to Suseo Station, passenger numbers are expected to increase further.
