The Inje wildfire in Gangwon Province has not been completely extinguished by sunset, prompting firefighting authorities to enter a nighttime response system.
According to the Korea Forest Service, as of 7:20 p.m. on the 26th, the containment rate of the wildfire that occurred near Hadong-ri, Sangnam-myeon, Inje County, is 93%.
The Inje wildfire broke out around 1:11 p.m. that day and spread due to strong winds. Firefighting authorities deployed 32 helicopters and 100 firefighting vehicles during the day, but the main blaze has not been fully extinguished.
The affected area of the wildfire is 63 hectares, with a total fire line of 5.3 kilometers. So far, 5 kilometers have been contained, and the remaining 0.3 kilometers is still being fought.
However, after sunset, all firefighting helicopters withdrew. Subsequently, firefighting personnel will be mobilized for nighttime suppression. If the fire is not extinguished during the night, helicopters will be redeployed after sunrise on the 27th.
The Korea Forest Service said, "We have mobilized all firefighting personnel and equipment to transition to a nighttime wildfire system" and "We will pay attention to safety to prevent any human or property damage."
