The prosecution revealed the identity of Park Chan-sung (64), who has been indicted on charges of murdering an acquaintance with whom he lived.
According to the legal community on the 25th, the Daejeon District Prosecutor's Office Criminal Division 3 disclosed Park Chan-sung's identity and photograph, who has been arrested and indicted on murder charges. Park is accused of fatally stabbing acquaintance B (in his 60s) at B's residence in Jung-gu, Daejeon, at around 1:30 a.m. on the 4th.
At that time, Park, who had been drinking and returned home late, asked the victim to open the door, but when the victim did not let him in, Park reportedly broke the glass with a brick and entered the house, stabbing the victim dozens of times with a weapon.
Park had previously received a 15-year prison sentence for murdering an acquaintance in Jeonju, North Jeolla Province, in 2004. After his release, he was sentenced to two years in prison for special injury after stabbing an acquaintance in Geumsan, South Chungcheong Province, in 2022, and he committed another crime just nine months after being released.
The Daejeon District Prosecutor's Office decided to disclose the identity information based on the law governing the disclosure of personal information of suspects in specific serious crimes, noting that this incident falls under specific serious crimes, the brutal nature of the method and means used in the crime, sufficient evidence, and the request from the victim's family for the disclosure of identity information. Park's identity information will be publicly available on the Daejeon District Prosecutor's Office website from 1 p.m. on this day until 30 days later on the 24th of next month.
