The Seoul Tourism Foundation announced on the 22nd that it has launched the 'Blue House on-site video description' in collaboration with the Blue House Foundation to mark the Day for Persons with Disabilities, and held a special event in the vicinity of the Blue House on the 20th.
This event was organized to promote the on-site video description program at the Blue House in honor of the Day for Persons with Disabilities and to continuously encourage revitalization of tourism in Seoul for visually impaired individuals.
On-site video description refers to a specialized narration that helps visually impaired individuals during travel activities, which includes route guidance and spatial as well as visual detailed descriptions, while utilizing various sensory experience elements such as auditory and tactile.
The foundation began training on-site video description specialists in 2019 and has been developing and operating on-site video description tour programs since 2020. The on-site video description program at the Blue House takes about 2 hours, covering areas from the main gate through the grand garden, main building, and residence to the guesthouse.
Ten visually impaired individuals participated in the event, where the specialized narrators provided vivid explanations and tailored descriptions using tactile materials. After the event, participants received commemorative gifts expressing a welcoming sentiment.
Participant Jo Gyu-sook said, "I can't believe I am here at the Blue House, which I always wanted to visit," adding, "Thanks to the energetic narration, I was able to satisfy my curiosity about the Blue House. I would like to recommend it to people around me."
Lee Joon, head of the tourism infrastructure team at the Seoul Tourism Foundation, noted, "I hope this event will be an opportunity for all to blend together in Seoul without discrimination," and said, "We will continue to work to expand cultural enjoyment opportunities for the tourism vulnerable, including visually impaired individuals."
This program is scheduled to run until Dec. 31. Reservations can be made through the operating office.
