Nineteen individuals who operated an illegal gambling site worth 15.5 billion won and opened illegal adult gaming venues across the country have been handed over to prosecutors.
According to police on the 21st, the Southern Gyeonggi Provincial Police Agency's Cyber Investigation Unit has arrested and transferred three individuals, including a 50-year-old identified as A in connection with the establishment of gambling spaces. The police also transferred 16 others, including gaming venue operators and account providers, without arrest on similar charges.
A and others are suspected of operating an illegal gambling site with over 1,300 members and deposits totaling 15.5 billion won from June 2022 to July 2023. A provided online gambling games such as "slots" and "baccarat" through the illegal gambling site, and opened offline gaming venues in nine locations including Pyeongtaek, Hwaseong, Incheon Yeongjongdo, Dangjin, and Wonju.
A reportedly lent expense for the initial setup of the gaming venues to acquaintances and took most of the revenue for himself while allowing them to operate. If the venues did not generate revenue, he allegedly gathered the operators to verbally abuse and educate them.
The police obtained intelligence and launched an investigation, arresting A in December of last year. As of this month, they have successively handed over six main office executives, 11 gaming venue operators, and two account providers to prosecutors. The police plan to file for the recovery of A's criminal revenue after making precise estimates.
