A man in his 50s who wrote malicious comments for several months about Trot singer Kim Da-hyun, 16, received a suspended prison sentence.
According to her agency, Entro Entertainment, the Daegu District Court's 6th Criminal Division sentenced Mr. A, 58, to four months in prison, with a two-year suspension, for defamation. The court stated, "Given that the young victim Kim Da-hyun likely endured significant mental anguish, the possibility of criticism is substantial."
Mr. A was indicted for posting a total of 73 defaming comments about Kim Da-hyun and 67 comments about her father, Kim Bong-gon, on the broadcasting station's internet viewer bulletin board from July 2023 for four months.
Kim Kyung-eun, the attorney representing Kim Da-hyun from the Law Firm Inui, emphasized, "The personal rights of public figures must also be respected," adding, "Especially, the impact of baseless malicious posts targeting young entertainers and their families is more serious."
Kim Da-hyun is known as the daughter of the instructor Kim Bong-gon from Cheonghakdong. She is active as a Trot singer, having finished as the runner-up in MBN's 'Voice Trot' and third place in TV Chosun's 'Tomorrow is Miss Trot 2.'
