An incident appears to have occurred in which a student was attempted to be abducted near an elementary school in Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
According to the police on the 18th, a report was received on the 16th stating that an elementary school student was almost abducted while leaving A Elementary School in Gaepo-dong, Gangnam-gu.
In response, A Elementary School sent a home letter to parents, stating, "There was an incident where an outsider approached a student outside the school," and requested, "We ask for your continued attention and guidance to ensure that your children pay attention to traffic safety and dealing with strangers while commuting to and from school."
A Elementary School conducted related safety education for students in each class. They requested cooperation from the Suseo Police Station and Gangnam District Office to ensure that students can return home safely. The police are verifying the exact facts and situation through nearby closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage.
The next day, on the 17th, a report was also received by the police regarding an incident near B Elementary School in Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam-gu, in which "a suspicious person approached a student offering to buy them a drink and tried to take them somewhere."
B Elementary School sent a home letter to parents that day, stating, "Be sure to instruct your children not to follow strangers or even people they usually know without the guardian's permission." The school has requested enhanced patrolling from the police and plans to secure CCTV footage for the distribution of a composite sketch of the suspicious person.
A Elementary School and B Elementary School are located 1.8 km apart in a straight line.
