The daughter of former President Moon Jae-in, 42-year-old Da-hye, has been prosecuted for driving under the influence and illegal accommodation services and was sentenced to a fine in the first trial.
On the 17th, Director General Kim Hyung-seok of the 5th Criminal Division of the Seoul Western District Court sentenced Ms. Moon to a fine of 15 million won for violating the Road Traffic Act and the Public Health Control Act.
The court said, "The defendant drove under the influence and operated lodging services without reporting in three places, which is not a trivial offense," adding, "The high blood alcohol concentration and the long operating period of the lodging service and the large amount of revenue are unfavorable factors."
However, it noted, "The defendant appears to acknowledge the wrongdoing and deeply regrets it, and there is no prior history of criminal punishment before this incident."
Ms. Da-hye left the courthouse without making any further comments after the sentencing.
Ms. Da-hye was charged without detention for crashing into a taxi while driving intoxicated in Itaewon, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, last October. At the time of the accident, her blood alcohol concentration was found to be 0.149%, exceeding the license suspension threshold of 0.08%.
Additionally, she is also accused of operating illegal accommodations at an officetel in Yeongdeungpo-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu, a villa in Yangpyeong-dong, and a single-family house in Hyeopjae-ri, Hallim-eup, Jeju City, generating a total revenue of 136 million won over approximately five years.
