A video of a child touching their tongue to bread displayed at a famous bakery in Seoul has gone viral, sparking controversy.

On the 12th, a video capturing a boy touching his tongue to bread placed on a display tray was shared in an online community.

The child touched the tip of their tongue to the white powdered sugar sprinkled on the bread and then smacked their lips. The exact timing of the recording is unclear, but internet users speculated based on the shape of the bread that it was a famous bakery in Seoul.

Netizens reacted that the guardian who did not stop the child bears greater responsibility. One netizen said, “I work part-time at a bakery, and it's difficult to manage 3- to 5-year-old kids. They might grab unwrapped bread with their hands or touch it with their tongue, and when I tell the child's mother, it’s like what can I do about it.”

Additionally, criticism has been directed at the practice of bakeries displaying unwrapped bread on open shelves. Comments included, “People's saliva or dust from clothes can get on the bread” and “I've seen flies or insects sitting on it.” One netizen suggested, “Bakeries should package bread individually or display it in glass cases, so staff can take it out to prevent such incidents.”
