The Korean Bar Association will hold a rally on the 14th, urging the government to reduce the number of newly licensed attorneys, which exceeds 1,700 annually, to below 1,200.
The Korean Bar Association will host a rally titled "Rally for Reducing the Number of Attorneys" starting at 11:30 a.m. in front of the Justice Ministry's main gate at the Gwacheon Government Complex. Korean Bar Association President Kim Jeong-wook and all executive members will attend the rally.
The Korean Bar Association noted, "The number of bar exam passers has exceeded 1,700 annually since 2020, and the number of registered attorneys last year was 36,535." It added, "Compared to 2009, before the introduction of graduate schools of law, the number of attorneys has tripled."
The Korean Bar Association stated, "While the number of attorneys has rapidly increased, there has been no consolidation or reduction of related legal professions, which was a prerequisite for the introduction of graduate schools of law." It continued, "Over-supply of attorneys in the legal market has led to fierce competition on low fees, resulting in a decline in the quality of legal services."
Meanwhile, the Justice Ministry announces the plan for the bar exam every September and determines the number of passers through deliberations by the Bar Examination Management Committee on the day of the announcement of the passers in the following year.
