Comedian Jang Dong-min's patented technology for the 'one-touch separation label for PET bottles' will be commercialized.
The eco-friendly startup 'Blue Sky,' led by Jang Dong-min, announced that it signed a tripartite memorandum of understanding with Kwangdong Pharmaceutical and Samyang Packaging on the 7th for the development and production of PET bottle labels.
The one-touch separation label is characterized by changing the horizontal label attached to existing PET bottles to a vertical one, allowing the label to separate when the bottle cap is turned, which enhances recycling efficiency. Jang Dong-min is known to have come up with this idea because the process of removing labels from PET bottles is cumbersome.
Jang Dong-min registered this idea for a patent in 2021 and completed formal registration the following year. Based on this, he founded Blue Sky in 2023 and received the Korea Environmental Industry Technology Institute Award, corresponding to 3rd place, at the 'Environmental Startup Competition' hosted by the Ministry of Environment in the same year.
Through this agreement, Blue Sky will provide the original patent, Kwangdong Pharmaceutical will handle commercialization, and Samyang Packaging will be responsible for productivity review and productization.
Jang Dong-min said, 'The vertical one-touch separation label is an innovative alternative that can respond to global environmental issues,' and 'I will do my utmost in product development so that consumers can easily remove the label and participate in environmental protection.'
